Legacy Top Tips: Getting Started with Re-Modelling Old, Inherited or Unloved jewellery.

What are the top considerations before you begin your jewellery redesign journey?

There are many important factors to consider when re-imagining old jewellery. Like many, you may not know what’s possible with your old jewellery or where or how to get started. Here, we share a few of our favourite top tips to getting started on your jewellery transformation journey.

Step 1: Be Inspired

Our first Top Tip is to start coveting other jewellery. Look for jewellery that inspires you or you would feel fabulous wearing. What jewellery would you admire on your friends? What jewellery would make you feel confident? What style reflects you? Even if it’s just a small aspect of a design that grabs your attention, save it or screenshot it. We may be able to include that design feature in your designs.

At this stage we believe you should dream big. Look for inspiration on Pinterest, Instagram, in magazines or in jewellery stores. Browse our design galleries, collect images and make a mood board of all your favourite designs. This can then be shared with your jewellery designer at the start of your redesign journey.

Step 2: It’s all about you!

Now you’ve started to gather ideas and inspiration, it’s time to put your sensible hat on. All those fabulous designs you have discovered and saved to your mood board - look at them with fresh eyes and consider what you would actually wear.

Sometimes it can be tempting to try something new or think ‘outside the box’, but the reality is, we all have our own preferred styles and one of the main reasons for re-inventing inherited jewellery is because it either doesn’t suit us, doesn’t sit well with our existing jewellery or is not to our taste. Creating a piece of jewellery that coordinates well with your existing jewellery is more likely to be worn and loved.

Step 3: Open your mind to new possibilities

It can be very difficult to imagine a piece of jewellery as something different. But for many, it is a revelation, seeing a ring turn into two or three different pendant design ideas, or a pendant into a ring.

Expand your ideas by considering the gemstones, diamonds and precious metal you have, rather than the pieces of jewellery. You may have old, or inherited rings, but would love to create a pendant, for example. Legacy is an exciting opportunity to create something completely different. Something you will love to wear. A piece of jewellery that makes you feel special.
