Frequently Asked Questions

The Design Process

  • Your first step is a no-obligation telephone call with Sarah; a relaxed and friendly chat where you can ask any questions you have about jewellery remodelling, and talk through your ideas and concerns.

Before the call, you’ll be invited to send a few photos of your existing jewellery, so we can better understand what you’re working with and what might be possible.

During the call, we’ll explore what your jewellery means to you, what you hope to create, and how we might bring that vision to life. There’s no pressure, no jargon, and no obligation, just a thoughtful, reassuring start to your Legacy journey.

  • If, after your Discovery Call, you’re excited to get started, then we need to see your jewellery in person (via a postal pack or face-to-face appointment).

The the exciting design stage starts!

Your initial designs will take around 5-7 days. You’ll be shown photo-realistic CAD designs, so you can clearly see your design from every angle. We talk through every detail and listen carefully to your feedback.

  • Yes, absolutely. If you’d like a little extra reassurance before we begin crafting your piece, we can create a wax model of your design. This allows you to hold it in your hands, try it on, and get a real feel for the proportions and scale before making any final decisions.

Many of our clients find this step incredibly helpful, it offers confidence, clarity, and often a lovely sense of excitement as the design starts to feel real.

There is a charge of £75 for creating your wax model.

  • The design process can take anything from one week to several weeks. What’s important is ensuring we get the design perfect for you and listen to your feedback. It is a truly collaborative process.

Once you have approved your design, it takes around 8-10 weeks, depending on the complexity of your design, to create your Legacy piece.

We’ll always give you a time estimate upfront, and keep you updated along the way.

  • All Legacy jewellery is designed in-house and expertly crafted by our trusted team of master goldsmiths and gemstone setters. We use the latest casting techniques, every piece is hand-finished, and all jewellery is independently hallmarked.

Every Legacy piece comes with an in-depth valuation certificate for your insurance.

Gemstones and Precious Metals

  • Yes, you can. Many of our clients choose to include sentimental gold in their new design.

To make a quality piece of jewellery the gold needs refining and processing. This is both time consuming and costly. However, if this process is not done properly the quality of the metal will be poor, resulting in a below par standard piece of jewellery.

Legacy designs are created using hi-tech manufacturing and casting techniques. If we believe your gold is not going to be suitable or may result in a lower quality standard we will advise against using it.

  • Due to continuously improving refining techniques and the recent increase in the price of gold globally, the cost of re-using your old gold is typically less expensive than creating a piece with new gold.

If you don’t want to use your old precious metal then the value of this can be off-set against your Legacy jewellery.

  • In short, no.

Platinum is a unique precious metal. It is considered the premium silver coloured metal to make jewellery out of. It has certain properties that make it almost impossible to melt down an existing piece and create a new item from.

In short, the cost and quality problems associated with the use of existing platinum jewellery make it unsuitable for use in Legacy jewellery. Your old Platinum does have a value and we would suggest using your spare platinum jewellery as a payment option toward your Legacy piece.

  • Any leftover diamonds or gemstones not being used in your design, will be handed back to you. Many clients save these for a future Legacy project and some keep them to hand to future generations when the time is right.

  • Yes, and many clients do. You might want to add extra sparkle with new diamonds, or introduce colour with a birthstone or a gem that reflects your personal style. We can source a wide range of ethically sourced stones to complement your design beautifully.

Every Legacy piece comes with an in-depth valuation certificate for your insurance.

  • Before we begin creating your designs, we’ll assess each gemstone carefully. If anything is chipped or worn, we’ll discuss options such as re-polishing, protective settings, or replacement, always with your approval.

  • Most gemstones can be beautifully reimagined in your Legacy design. We regularly work with diamonds, sapphires, rubies, emeralds, and other precious stones passed down through generations.

We are more cautious when it comes to softer, more delicate stones such as pearls and opals. These can be vulnerable to damage during the setting process or through everyday wear. If we have any concerns about the condition or suitability of a particular gemstone, we’ll always discuss this with you openly and explore the safest options together.

Your jewellery will never be unset or altered without your full understanding and approval.
