Not All Jewellery Is Created Equal - And That’s Why It Matters

Why choosing the right jeweller is about more than design - it’s about trust, emotion, and doing justice to your story

Having a piece of jewellery made just for you is a very different experience from picking something out of a high-street window.

There’s something extraordinary about wearing a design that’s personal. Not just because it looks beautiful, but because it means something. Because it was built around your story, not someone else’s idea of style.

But here’s something many women only discover the hard way:

Not all bespoke jewellers treat your story with the care it deserves. And when the work isn’t done thoughtfully, it can leave you feeling worse than when you started.

Kate’s Story: A Ring Made With Love, But Not Quite Right

Before

The settings were chunky and did not showcase the lovely diamonds and gemstones. The design of the ring was aesthetically not what Kate was looking for

Kate’s husband had commissioned a ring for her birthday using her grandmother’s diamonds and a stunning blue sapphire. The intention was beautiful - full of sentiment and love. But the finished piece felt all wrong. The setting was clunky and overbuilt, overwhelming the delicate stones. She felt heartbroken and guilty. This was supposed to be special, so why didn’t it feel like her?

After a gentle conversation with her husband, she approached us at Legacy.

We listened. We asked questions. And then we started again.

We created delicate design options that honoured the original materials but brought them into a lighter, more elegant setting. Kate chose her favourite, suggested a tweak, and we got to work.

The result? A stunning new ring that felt modern, balanced, and unmistakably hers.

After

Creating a delicate rub setting around gemstones is not for the faint hearted, but we think it is essential to showcase your gemstones and ensure that your ring looks amazing!

A stunning redesign in platinum that showcases the beautiful diamonds and sapphires.

Becky’s Story: When Jewellery Remodelling Goes Horribly Wrong

Becky approached Legacy Jewellery after a terrible experience rocked her confidence in the whole remodelling world.

She had entrusted another jeweller with two incredibly meaningful pieces - her engagement ring and her wedding band - worn every day for sixteen years. The settings were worn, the stones at risk, and she knew it was time to preserve them with care.

But what she received back was devastating.

The new design was poorly made and it began to fall apart within an hour of being worn. Yes, one hour! The piece was unwearable, uncomfortable with sharp edges, and completely wrong. And so was the experience.

Becky didn’t feel confident returning to the original jeweller. The trust had gone. So, instead, she came to us, heartbroken, cautious, but hopeful.

Together, we examined what had gone wrong and explored what could still be right.
We took the failed piece, a loose diamond Rebecca had decided to add to the new design, and another older ring she no longer wore. From that collection of damage and sentiment, we started again.

Piece by piece, gently and patiently, we created something new.
Something balanced, thoughtful, beautiful.
A design that honoured every memory, while finally giving her something she could wear with pride and joy.

The final ring brought it all together, not just gold and diamonds, but years of love, frustration, and healing.
Crafted as it always should have been, with care, clarity, and meticulous attention to detail.
