TRANSFORM OLD, INHERITED AND UNWORN JEWELLERY

Jewellery Remodelling & Redesign

Transform jewellery you no longer wear into something created especially for you—while preserving the gemstones, precious metals, memories and stories that make it irreplaceable.

Based in Harrogate and working with women across the UK, Legacy specialises in the thoughtful redesign of inherited, sentimental and unworn jewellery.

What is Jewellery Remodelling?

Jewellery remodelling is the process of using some or all of the gemstones and precious metals from existing jewellery to create a new design.

The process starts by looking at your gemstones and precious metals, assessing what can be re-used and then exploring design ideas together.

The journey can be hugely exciting and often emotional. And the possibilities are endless:

  • Reuse existing gemstones in a new setting.

  • Combine several rings or pieces.

  • Transform rings into pendants or earrings.

  • Update a design while preserving its character.

  • Reuse suitable sentimental gold in a new design.

  • Add new gemstones or precious metal to create your perfect design.

  • Credit unused precious metals.

Is Jewellery Remodelling For Me?

  • Do you have inherited jewellery that is not your style?

  • Do you own several family pieces that are sitting unworn?

  • Do your rings no longer fit or suit your life?

  • Would you love to preserve a connection to someone important?

  • Would you love to combine jewellery from different family members?

  • Would you love to create something special for a daughter or granddaughter?

  • Do you own jewellery associated with bereavement or divorce and you’d love to give it a new meaning?

  • Do you love your diamonds or gemstones but not the original design?

You do not need to know what you want to create. Helping you discover that is part of the Legacy process.

What Can Be Reused?

Gemstones

Many precious and semi-precious gemstones can be reused. We have worked with most gemstones over the years including sapphire, diamond, ruby, emerald, amethyst, morganite, smoky quartz, tanzanite, aquamarine and topaz.

Important things to note:

  • Every gemstone must first be examined.

  • Chips, abrasions, inclusions or previous damage may affect suitability, we will advise you of your options.

  • Some gemstones may require protective settings.

  • Some gemstones may benefit from professional repolishing.

  • Working with gemstones always involves some risk, and we will explain any relevant risks before you proceed.

Important Information

Any gemstones that are not being used in your Legacy design, will be returned to you.

Any precious metal not being used, can either be returned or the value off-set against the cost of creating your Legacy jewellery.

Everything is put in writing prior to proceeding.

Precious Metals

Most Legacy jewellery is created in either gold, platinum or a combination of both. Here’s what you need to know…

Gold

  • In many cases, we are able to reuse old gold. Its purity, condition, colour and quantity must be assessed.

  • Older gold may contain solder, contamination or mixed alloys.

  • Different qualities of gold can be melted down and reused together, so for example we can combine 9ct gold and 18ct gold.

  • If older gold is deemed unsuitable then the value of it can be off-set against the cost of your Legacy piece.

  • If you don’t want to re-use your old gold, or you don’t have enough gold to create your preferred design, we will quote to use new gold (all “new” gold we use has been previously recycled from old jewellery).

Platinum

  • We cannot reuse your old platinum. Instead we can off-set the value of this against the cost of your Legacy piece.

  • If your chosen design is in platinum, we will quote to create it in new platinum.

Silver

  • We don’t tend to work with silver, but have included inherited silver in a number of Legacy pieces. Silver can be melted down and reused in your Legacy creation.

How Much Does Legacy Jewellery Remodelling Cost?

At Legacy Jewellery, each piece is unique, so there is no set price list.

Price depends on a number of factors such as: the intricacy of a design, the precious metal chosen, the number of gemstones, the depth, weight, dimensions and your finger size.

As a guide the price of a Legacy ring starts from around £1400 for a simple design and can exceed £4000 for a larger or more intricate design. Pendants start from around £800.

If you have a budget in mind, please mention this in your free Discovery Call with Sarah, as we can tailor your designs to suit your budget.

Having an understanding of what to expect from the experience and the required investment will help you determine whether this journey is right for you.

NB: The value of any old precious metal not being used in your design can be offset against the cost.

Irreplaceable Jewellery Demands Exceptional Care

  • The security and safety of your jewellery is our top priority. Your jewellery is fully covered under our Jeweller’s Block insurance policy whilst in our possession.

  • Your Legacy jewellery will come with a comprehensive insurance valuation.
